Talking about Jesus is always a thrilling, sometimes frightening and occasionally funny experience. Click here for a “fresh perspective” on sharing your faith.
I was hesitant to use the illustration in Sunday’s sermon of witnessing on the job site as I worked a construction job during college because that is an extreme situation. The
truth is, boldness is called for many times every day and often in what
appear to be small and often unplanned interactions with other people.
Boldness can look like a lot of things:
- Bringing up the subject of Jesus in a conversation (it always requires courage!)
- Helping a person who needs food or a ride and explaining how it is your privilege to help since you follow Jesus.
- Praying for your meal … and being ready to explain why?
- Explaining to someone how you came to Christ and how he has changed your life.
- Asking a neighbor to join you for worship on Sunday.
- Offering to pray for your waiter or waitress … then doing something about it if you can!
- Sitting at the lunch table and offering friendship to the student who is ridiculed or new.
- Taking time for a co-worker who is struggling and offering support.
- Caring for a neighbor at a time of need and offering to pray with them.
It always takes courage to obey the Lord and talk about Jesus. So,
whether it is relatively easy for you or difficult, just open your
mouth and speak up … the Lord will give you the strength and words that
you need!
