November 4th

The last few weeks we have focused on the presidential election … but there is another critical issue on next Tuesday’s ballot as well.  Florida voters will be voting to decide whether the Biblical definition of marriage prevails in our fine state.

You must be informed on this issue and should vote according to the very standards we have reviewed in the last three blogs.  God’s word is unmistakably clear that homosexuality is a sinful perversion of God’s design for men and women.  Legalizing and thereby legitimizing it are as far from God’s plan for our laws as can be imagined.  The ramifications for our community and country are significant as well.  Get informed by visiting www.YES2MARRIAGE.ORG.  It takes some pretty complicated (and dishonest) interpretive gymnastics to make Romans 1:21-29 say homosexuality is anything other than a sin.

Some have asked me whether or not voting “yes” on this amendment to limit the definition of marriage to be a union between a man and a woman is acting hatefully toward homosexuals.  In short … “No” … and for two reasons.

FIRST – We are to a people of the truth.  There is nothing loving about denying the truth.  As you are well aware, we are to love all people and seek to share with them the good news and new life that is available through faith in Christ.  We can have a genuine regard for people struggling with any number of sin issues without accommodating that sin or pretending it is no sin at all.  If you have cancer, I am no friend to you if I pretend it is something other than the life-threatening disease than it really is.

SECOND – we have a responsibility to advocate for laws that support a biblical and God-focused ethical standard.  The implications of having future generations taught something different are staggering.

Tuesday is the big day – I plead with you to pray and participate!  The commitment of Floridians to pass Amendment Two is in question.  Make sure you go out and vote.
